Our longtime friend and photographer, Ev Wunder of Eveline Wunder Photography (formerly Little Wunders Photography) is moving to Maui with her little family. Since launching our event planning company here in Utah two years ago, Ev has consistently captured our event design work beautifully. Today we have a simple and elegant destination wedding to share with you photographed by the lovely and talented Alixann Loosle of Alixann Loosle Photography.

Carly and Matt are avid skiers and frequent visitors to Park City’s mountain slopes. Wanting to celebrate their marriage with family and friends in a place they loved so dearly, they decided to marry in Park City, at the Kimball Art Center. They wanted the focus of their wedding day to not only be about their tying the knot, but also celebrating the love of their family and friends. They opted to hold a casual hors d’oeuvres and cocktail reception (deliciously catered by Culinary Crafts) prior to the wedding ceremony, followed by a dinner at Talisker Restaurant on Main Street.

Working with Carly and Matt was a wedding planner’s dream. They were prepared and knew exactly the look and style they wanted for their wedding, yet they still gave us full creative control to see their vision for their wedding day come through. We filled the venue with light and airy details – cream linens and soft white and dusty gray florals, white anemones and pillar candles to line the aisle, votive candles and white blooms hung above the ceremony space, and two floral centerpieces placed atop gallery pedestals and a soft white linen backdrop to anchor the front of the ceremony space. All the details were elegant, sophisticated, understated and true to the Park City aesthetic, as well as both Carly and Matt’s personal style and elegance.

The Taiwanese have been gearing up for Valentine’s for weeks now. The local 7-11′s are stocked with all sorts of chocolate goodies and all the flower shops are teaming with pink and red flowers. Turns out this day is celebrated pretty much the same here as it is in America. There was one thing though that kept catching my attention as I’ve ridden around town…

Now bouquets of flowers are expected, but bouquets of stuffed animals?? Yes, please!! My inner asian/10 yr old loves this! Maybe a new trend for the states? The florist said roses are still the predominant flower of choice for the day, but stuffed animal bouquets are pretty common all year round and in greater abundance this time of year. I love it and am secretly wishing some last minute admirer will be as cheesy as I am and deliver before the day is over. A girl can hope right?

Happy Valentine’s Day, where ever you are in this world! Past, present, or future, today is all about love, and love is something definitely worth celebrating.

Have you picked up the newest copy of Salt Lake/Park City Bride & Groom Magazine, yet? If you haven’t, then you MUST pick-up this stunning publication. The images are beautiful, the fashion spread – far beyond what you’d expect from any bridal magazine, and tons of gorgeous work and inspiration from Utah’s finest wedding vendors!

We are extremely proud and grateful to have had the opportunity to create a tablescape focused on one of Utah’s greatest themes – the southern Utah desert. We took inspiration from Utah’s beautiful summer blue skies, magnificent red rock and native utah grasses, plants and foliage. Playing off the amazing artwork of John Brent Jarvis, we took a very colorful and vibrant approach when designing this look. Rather than sticking to the predictable burlap or brown natural linen, we decided to use a peacock blue taffeta linen representing Utah’s sky. We built a 6 foot long sandstone vase and chose succulents, bright colored roses, grasses and pink Himalayan salt blocks as a little nod to Utah red rocks. Keeping the look simple and with a slightly masculine edge, we finished the look with coral glass plates, copper silverware, linen napkins, personalized succulent favors, and name cards showcasing small scale art pieces of southern Utah that when unfolded, displayed the menu.

A huge THANK YOU to all of the vendors who helped to complete our desert Utah themed tablescape. We think it turned out pretty good. What do you think? We’d love the opportunity to take this look further and do a complete wedding with this look – any takers?

Our new ad can be found on page 15 of the brand new (and gorgeous) Salt Lake/Park City Bride & Groom Magazine. The sun-kissed, full-page photo of our recently wedded couple, Vanessa and Stephen, by Ashley Thalman Photography, sets the scene for this year’s ad. But that’s not all. By scanning the QR code at the bottom of the ad, you can watch Vanessa and Stephen’s mountain wedding ceremony at the St. Regis Deer Valley. The video was masterfully produced by Enge Van Wagoner, of Enge V.W. Films, and who is also a past MOOD bride. We will be posting the video here on our blog TOMORROW so be sure to check back. Today we are kicking off 2012 on the right foot by starting anew and hoping to keep this blog more regularly updated. We’re hoping this resolution doesn’t fail miserably like trying to lose weight – our fingers are crossed.

Today we are excited to share with you beautiful detail photos of Rachel and Aaron’s winter wedding reception held at the beautiful Gardner Village and shot by Eveline Wunder Photography. The staff at Gardner Village do an amazing job every year of decorating the venue for the holidays, so when we met with Rachel and Aaron to go over decor ideas, it was fitting that they wanted their florals to be all white, simple, elegant and with a rustic-vintage touch. Choosing to go this route ensured that the wedding decor would stand apart from the venue’s Christmas decor, but at the same time, not be so different in style and look that they competed with one another. Plus, the style and decor Rachel and Aaron selected for their wedding reception matched the venue perfectly, a good tip if you’re shopping for a wedding venue or trying to figure out a style.

We are looking forward to a great 2012, filled with many celebrations, beautiful weddings and rockin’ parties! Cheers!

A Note About “Vintage”

You may have heard that the wedding “vintage” trend is on it’s way out, or perhaps, already done and gone. You’ve fallen in love with the vintage look and style, but your time to be married just hasn’t come. So what do you do? Well, here’s our two cents. And it’s just that – two cents. The “vintage” wedding trend as we currently know it may certainly be on it’s way out. First things first, don’t give too much thought to “trends.” Instead, be yourself and make sure your wedding truly reflects you and your fiance’s personal style. Incorporate a couple of currently trending elements into your wedding if you’d like, but don’t over do it. Secondly, there will always be a place for “vintage” in weddings (or whatever terminology you choose to use – heirloom, heritage, traditional, etc). No, it may not necessarily be the “vintage” of today’s weddings, but certainly weddings should always acknowledge and reflect on one’s heritage, family traditions and relationships – however you choose to incorporate them. Third, think “classic.” You can never go wrong with classic and timeless. And lastly, remember what weddings are all about – your love.

With Pioneer Day right around the corner (for those of you followers that live outside of Utah, we are privy to two July holidays in this lovely state, celebrated similarly with BBQs, family get-togethers, and time off work), we here at MOOD wanted to give you a little something to spice up your BBQ this Sunday (or Saturday). I found this little gem of a recipe on Williams-Sonoma’s website, a sanctuary for beyond scrumptious recipes.

They call it Fire-Roasted Corn Salad. It so easy to make and perfect for this time of year when sweet corn stands are aplenty. All it requires is a bunch of chopping and whipping-up a quick vinaigrette, and everyone will think you are a 5-star chef. No joke. I’ve served this dish at so many BBQs and it is always the bees knees.

Pair it with their Grilled Garlic Bread, also a crowd pleaser, add a touch of leek (or don’t, still tasty without), and people will be begging you to show up to every one of their BBQs.

Let me make a personal note here. The corn salad can be simplified by roasting the corn on the cob stovetop or even broiling frozen corn in the oven, as well as broiling the garlic bread in the oven. But NOTHING will trump the to-die-for tastiness AND smokiness that only comes from the grill.

Of course you have to have a meat dish present too. Your typical steak, hamburger, pork chop will do here. But if you want to be a bit atypical… try my personal recipe I like to call ManDogs. Buy some crappy hot dogs and soak them in beer overnight (poke holes in the dogs using a fork, helps them absorb the beer better), then wrap them in bacon (use toothpicks to hold in place), and throw them on the grill. Results: ridiculous deliciousness in your mouth and a gain of 5 pounds after this is all over.

And let’s not forget dessert. Grill a few peaches, pair with yummy vanilla ice cream, and top it off with some homemade rum glaze (brown sugar, butter, and a touch of rum). If you dare take on the combination of all four items, I solemnly promise, your BBQ WILL be the talk of the town.
